By the age of 3 or 4, children are leaving the
toddler period and entering the broad new world of the preschooler.
This is a time primarily involved in cooperative play and learning
to function as part of a group. They are developing and refining
their motor skills, as well as, learning to become more independent
and autonomous.
The International School Preschool curriculum focuses on the development
of the whole child with emphasis on individual needs. The daily
routine touches on a range of topics, creative processes and sensory
activities. The room is divided into areas that encourage children
to learn through hands-on exploration. These areas include a wide
array of small manipulative games, puzzles, coloring and cutting
materials, paints, dramatic play props, sensory table, a variety
of blocks, science exploration and a cozy book corner.
The components of the program may vary each week according to:
weekly theme or topic chosen, a concentration of a letter of the
alphabet and the study/introduction of one of the foreign languages.
Some focus is put on kindergarten readiness such as: exposure to
the alphabet, numbers shapes, colors, and pre-writing skills. Outdoor
play and gross motor skills are a daily part of the curriculum while
language and socialization development is ongoing.
