GeoBee
Challenge - National Geographic for Kids is posting
five new geography questions each day on its GeoBee Quiz page. "Some
of the questions are real stumpers, but it's okay if you miss a
few."

share with parents and even use themselves. This 32-page booklet
offers information on geography standards plus an updated resource
section that includes geography-related software & web sites.

Guide to U.S. Government for Kids (Grs. 6-8) - Beginning
with basic ideas such as symbols of the government, the site progresses
to topics such as the branches of government, historical documents,
national versus state government, and citizenship. The Parents and
Teachers section offers curriculum links and links to government
Websites for kids.
Kokone
-- This Spanish-language kids' site is about Mexico's culture. It
includes some great information about the indigenous peoples ---
their traditional culture and lifestyle, and their impact on modern
culture. The site is mostly in Spanish, but one excellent area ---Animals
of the Ancient Miztecs--- is translated into English. This is the
kind of site that will make kids want to learn Spanish just so they
can spend time exploring this site. It's packed full of great stuff.

Complete Works of Shakespeare - A comprehensive resource
for English teachers, students, and fans of the Bard. Includes a
discussion area, listings of Internet resources, play listings,
etc.
Math
in the Middle - Developed with federal and state support,
Math in the Middle uses videotapes and interactive media to engage
students in math problem-solving. The integrated approach draws
on music, oceans, design, motion, and nature to explore connections
between pre-algebra concepts and music, science, art, and social
studies.
MathNerds
- Created by the Center for Advancement of Teaching, Xavier University,
this site allows students to "ask the expert" questions
about math that may even have the teacher stumped. The Archive of
past questions is searchable by keyword, date, and category. A collection
of mind-boggling problems, contributed by users, can be found in
the Best of the MathNerds section. (Education World)

This! - Middle school math challenges for families.
Developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and
other organizations, this site aims to make mathematics part of
the everyday learning process outside of school. It targets parents
of middle school-age children and provides them with a variety of
math challenges to work on with their children.
The
Science Spot - The Science Spot is an excellent resource
for middle school educators and students. Lessons, projects, worksheets,
teacher resources and science trivia class starters. The
Adopt-an-Insect Project began as a schoolwide project at Havana
(IL) Junior High to investigate the insect world. Each grade level
"adopts" specific orders of insects, collects specimens,
creates classroom collections, and completes related activities.
Virtual
Field Trips - Take students on nature field trips through
the Web. Each field trip covers a single topic such as salt marshes,
sharks, hurricanes and volcanoes. Sites are arranged in sequential
order to build a story and include a series of "trail markers"
or stops, that describe each site on the field trip to guide students'
learning. If logs or journals are required, every field trip has
a set of prepared documents that you can print out for each person
on the trip. Also included are short teacher's guides and selected
other Web sites that provide background or curriculum guidance.
Most trips targeted for late elementary and middle grades students.

"Find
Out Why" - Offers short scientific explanations
of everyday phenomena having to do with such things as baseball,
snow, & milk. The site also promotes an outreach program to
increase computer literacy and offers an annotated listing of sites
that apply science at the grade-school level. (National Science
